ICYMI: January's Premium TDW Content
What a way to start the year! Premium TeenDramaWhore subscribers enjoyed four news roundups, two in-depth essays, and two interviews during the month of January.
If you aren’t a premium subscriber, here’s what you missed the last few weeks.
Interview with a Teen Drama Fan: Lisa Barrett
Lisa was among the readers who responded to my request for unpopular teen drama opinions — and her take on “Gossip Girl” was a doozy!
I also wanted to speak with Lisa because she met her husband because of “Dawson’s Creek”… really!
Only premium TDW subscribers can be selected for fan interviews and only premium subscribers get to watch them, so make sure you’re signed up before I reveal the next topic!
Video: Interview with Nina Repeta of “Dawson’s Creek”
Nina memorably played Joey’s sister Bessie in nearly 90 episodes of “Dawson’s Creek.”
We discussed everything from meeting Katie Holmes to whether she rooted for Dawson or Pacey.
Nina’s husband worked on “One Tree Hill” and their son is a blossoming actor, so our chat went off in some really interesting directions.
The Insanity of Warring Fandoms
In this essay, I vented my frustration with fan groups having the same arguments again and again.
I explained why shipper wars are pointless and lamented the lack of maturity in such online fights.
I also touched on how this problem isn’t unique to the teen drama genre or even television — music and sports, for example, are two other areas of pop culture where fans are all too often at war with one another.
How the Teen Dramas Affect the Way We See Physical Appearances
Do you know what the average 16-year-old looks like? Here’s a hint: not how they look on our beloved teen dramas.
This essay explored the ways in which we have warped perceptions of age and beauty after watching unusually fit 20- and 30-somethings play teenagers.
To underscore my point, I shared two personal photos — it’s clear which version of me would be cast on a teen drama and which one wouldn’t.
Teen Drama Links for January 5, 2021
Our first news roundup of 2021 was quite long, demonstrating the continued staying power of the teen dramas after so many years.
Highlights included a look at some teen drama stars’ New Year’s resolutions, a big announcement from Paula Cole about the “Dawson’s Creek” theme song, and quite a few “Gossip Girl” / “Bridgerton” comparisons.
Teen Drama Links for January 12, 2021
In this edition, I pointed out an unfortunate connection between the teen dramas and politics in the wake of the insurrection at the Capitol.
There was also news on Brian Austin Green, Mischa Barton, James Lafferty, and Katie Cassidy, among many others.
Teen Drama Links for January 19, 2021
This installment started out with a fun poll series: “How Do Your Teen TV Opinions Compare To Everyone Else’s?”
Links also touched on why Randy Spelling left Hollywood behind, the revelation that Jon Hamm auditioned for “The O.C.,” and some lovely marriage and baby news.
Teen Drama Links for January 26, 2021
I gave a detailed explanation why I, the ultimate TeenDramaWhore, won’t be purchasing “Beverly Hills, 90210 - The Ultimate Collection.”
I also shared some teen drama examples of the Bernie Sanders meme, highlighted an upcoming podcast with James Van Der Beek, and pointed out an instance of teen drama worlds colliding thanks to a “Timeless” reunion.
