Interview with a Teen Drama Fan: Reality Steve

teendramawhore.substack.com

In honor of tomorrow being the 32nd anniversary of “Beverly Hills, 90210,” I wanted to catch up with someone whose “Beverly Hills, 90210” fandom I’ve read about for years.

Steve Carbone, better known as “Reality Steve,” is one of (if not THE) foremost chroniclers of all things “Bachelor Nation” — “The Bachelor,” “The Bachelorette,” “Bachelor in Paradise,” etc. But if you follow his work closely, as I have, you know he’s also a huge “Beverly Hills, 90210” fan.

Steve has worked “Beverly Hills, 90210” references into his writing for years and even occasionally answers questions about the show in his “Reader Emails” column. He even interviewed executive producer Larry Mollin on his podcast back in 2020.

On a recent Zoom chat, Steve and I discussed...

-How he started watching “Beverly Hills, 90210”

-His favorite seasons, characters, and couples

-Which characters would be on “Bachelor Nation” shows

-The passing of Luke Perry and his son Jungle Boy’s wrestling career

-What other teen dramas he’s watched

... and much more. Check out the full video below!

One correction: During the interview, I wrongly say Joe E. Tata didn’t join the opening credits of “Beverly Hills, 90210” until season 9. That is incorrect. It was season 6.
