Teen Drama Connections: "USS Christmas" + More Holiday Movies
You know what’s great about this time of year?
A bevy of teen drama stars return to our television screens thanks to the ever-popular trend of filling the November and December airwaves with holiday-themed movies.
More than a dozen teen drama stars have appeared in Hallmark and Lifetime holiday movies over the years. 2018’s The Christmas Contract even served as a bonafide “One Tree Hill” reunion by bringing Hilarie Burton (Peyton), Danneel Harris (Rachel), Antwon Tanner (Skills), Robert Buckley (Clay), Tyler Hilton (Chris), and Elisabeth Harnois (Shelley) back together. It was a similar case with Burton, Hilton, Tanner, Lee Norris (Mouth), Colin Fickes (Jimmy), Barbara Alyn Woods (Deb), and Rhoda Griffis (Rachel, One Tree Hill / Dr. Marlee Sumner, Dawson’s Creek) starring in last year’s A Christmas Wish.
This year, I’d like to call special attention to USS Christmas, which premieres tonight on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
Not only does this new flick star Trevor Donovan (Teddy, 90210), but it was also partially filmed in Wilmington — home of “Dawson’s Creek” and “One Tree Hill.” Watch tonight and you’ll definitely recognize the Riverwalk, where many “Dawson’s Creek” and “One Tree Hill” scenes were shot. Other filming locations include the Battleship North Carolina, which “One Tree Hill” fans no doubt know is located right next to Battleship Park, which used to be the location of the River Court.
Donovan even visited another famous “One Tree Hill” site when he was in town…
Donovan told WECT of shooting in Wilmington, “The first week we were here it was well into the 90′s and there was snow all over the place and people walking around in sweaters and it was a strange sight but there’s something very nostalgic about Christmas decorations and snow on the ground and a white Christmas.”
Wilmington’s local paper, the StarNews, also provided great coverage on how the production turned parts of town into a winter wonderland. Even the StarNews newsroom was transformed for an on-camera appearance. Perhaps needless to say, I’ll be watching USS Christmas at 10:00 p.m. tonight and I hope you will be too!
Of course, USS Christmas isn’t the only holiday movie this year starring one of our teen drama faves. Make sure you also catch these films this season!
