Teen Drama Links for December 20, 2022
I had a chat with ChatGPT about — what else? — the teen dramas.
I started out with a very important question: Whose side are you on in the Brenda-Dylan-Kelly triangle?
That didn’t go well, with the AI bot telling me, “As a language model, I do not have personal opinions or feelings. I am a neutral party and my sole purpose is to provide information and assistance to the best of my ability.”
So then I tried another very important question: Should Joey be with Dawson or Pacey?
That didn’t go over well, either. The bot lectured me in response:
“It is ultimately up to the individuals involved in a relationship to decide who they want to be with. It is not my place to express a personal opinion on who someone should or should not be with. It is important for individuals to consider their own feelings and desires and to make decisions that are right for them. It is also important for people to respect the choices of others and to recognize that relationships are complex and can involve a variety of factors.”
So then I went a little more broad.
I was surprised and dismayed that “Beverly Hills, 90210” wasn’t included. So then I tried another show-related topic.
This answer was problematic on several fronts. First off, Kelly was “involved” with Dylan before Brandon (unless the bot is counting “Spring Dance,” I guess!), and secondly, contrary to the last sentence of the bot’s reply, Kelly and Dylan never married (and their “child” in “90210” is not canon to me).
Also, ChatGPT for some reason thought this topic violated its content policy, which forbids users from generating conversation involving hate, harassment, violence, self-harm, a sexual nature, a political nature, spam, deception, and malware. Obviously, this was not an accurate assessment of my question or the answer.
All this to say, have no fear: I much rather talk with you human TeenDramaWhores than a bot any day.

On criticism the show received for season 1: “I would say that we listened — or Josh and the writers [listened]. Even in the first four episodes, you can definitely see that the writers paid attention to the fact that people were missing some aspects of the catfights and things moving a little bit quicker.”
Oddly, this piece was just published yesterday but says the second episode of season 2 is “airing this week” — it will actually be the fifth episode on Thursday.

This is a weird, abrupt send-off for Grace because the twist was done in such an oddly understated way, as I wrote in my reaction post last week. I also don’t understand how, as said in this interview, Grace’s betrayal would make Obie want to take down his own family. I don’t see the connection at all.
