Teen Drama Links for December 21, 2021
It’s hard to believe the holiday season is rapidly approaching its end. That means my holiday-movie viewing is almost over too.
Since compiling 2021’s Holiday Movies with Teen Drama Stars last month, I’ve watched eight of them.
Dancing Through the Snow with AnnaLynne McCord (Naomi, 90210)
Nantucket Noel with Trevor Donovan (Teddy, 90210)
A Kindhearted Christmas with Jennie Garth (Kelly, Beverly Hills, 90210)
An Unexpected Christmas with Bethany Joy Lenz (Haley, One Tree Hill)
Angel Falls Christmas with Chad Michael Murray (Lucas, One Tree Hill) and Jessica Lowndes (Adrianna, 90210)
Jingle Bell Christmas with Donovan
The Holiday Fix Up with Jana Kramer (Alex, One Tree Hill) and Maria Menounos (Jules, One Tree Hill)
Toying with the Holidays with Murray
Still on the DVR is Murray and Lowndes’ fall flick, An Autumn Romance, which in recent airings has been retitled A Winter Romance (and was previously called Colors of Love). Also taking up space is Eight Gifts of Hanukkah, although there aren’t any teen drama stars in that one.
All that to say, I’ve watched quite a few so far this season… and still have a few to go. I’d love to hear which holiday movies with teen drama stars you’ve watched this year. Drop a comment below!

Life of a Lifetime, which co-starred Doherty, is nominated for a Critics’ Choice TV Award in the category of Best Movie Made for Television, in which Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas, which featured Peter Gallagher (Sandy, The O.C.), is also competing. (Deadline)
I failed to realize the above when I reported on Joshua Jackson (Pacey, Dawson’s Creek) and Evan Peters (Jack, One Tree Hill) being nominated earlier this month.
Eva Longoria, who appeared on an episode of “Beverly Hills, 90210,” will star in the docuseries “Eva Longoria: Searching for Mexico” for CNN+. (Deadline)
John Reilly (Bill, Beverly Hills, 90210), Peter Mark Richman (Lawrence, Beverly Hills, 90210), and Jessica Walter (Tabitha, 90210) are remembered in “Year in Review: The Television Stars We Said Goodbye to in 2021.” (TVLine)

Cringe: “The third cohost is ‘90210’ superfan Sisanie.”
You know how I feel about calling it “90210”… (TDW)
And how I feel about calling Sisanie a “superfan.”
Missing from the list? “Drama Queens.”
This fashion-focused piece makes the case that Katie Holmes (Joey, Dawson’s Creek) is “Still Everyone’s Favourite Girl Next Door,” using some photos from her “Dawson’s Creek” days, including a shot with James Van Der Beek (Dawson, Dawson’s Creek). (Vogue UK)
Note the snapshot of Holmes and Van Der Beek is incorrectly dated as from 1995. It’s actually from 1998. It’s also wrongly said to be from the Oscars. It’s really from the Emmys. Sheesh.
Jackson was asked about the enduring legacy of “Dawson’s Creek” via streaming and gave an interesting answer. (Access Hollywood)
Carolyn Hennesy (Mrs. Valentine, Dawson’s Creek) was on Maurice Benard’s “State of Mind” podcast. (YouTube)

Nicole Chavez, a costumer on “The O.C.,” “Shares Her Top Holiday Gifts and the Items Kristen Bell Inspired Her to Buy.” (The Hollywood Reporter)
Chavez is a stylist for both Bell (Gossip Girl, Gossip Girl) and Rachel Bilson (Summer, The O.C.). She was on “Welcome to the OC, Bitches” back in August.
Bilson, Melinda Clarke (Julie, The O.C.), Shenae Grimes (Annie, 90210), and McCord all discussed “reclaiming their voices” via their rewatch podcasts. (The Guardian)
It’s an interesting read, though odd the “9021OMG” and “Drama Queens” ladies weren’t interviewed too.
Also noteworthy: Bilson and Clarke say in the piece that they haven’t “personally” reached out to Mischa Barton (Marissa, The O.C.) to appear on “Welcome to the OC, Bitches.”
Chris Pratt (Che, The O.C.) and wife Katherine Schwarzenegger are expecting another baby. (People)
Cole Sprouse mentioned “The O.C.,” “One Tree Hill,” and the original “Gossip Girl” when talking about the longevity of teen shows. (Entertainment Tonight)
Sprouse, of course, stars on “Riverdale,” which featured the late Luke Perry (Dylan, Beverly Hills, 90210) until his passing.
Josh Schwartz (creator, The O.C. / creator, Gossip Girl / executive producer, Gossip Girl spinoff) and Stephanie Savage (executive producer, The O.C. / creator, Gossip Girl / executive producer, Gossip Girl spinoff) will executive-produce a new “Sweet Valley High” series for The CW. (Deadline)
Ashley Wigfield, a production assistant on the original “Gossip Girl” and a writer-producer on the spinoff, will write and executive-produce the show.
Thanks to Drama Queens, “One Tree Hill” is highlighted in “Old Shows That Everyone Rewatched In 2021.” (The List)
This discussion on remaining a fan of Harry Potter despite J.K Rowling’s abhorrent views includes a comparison to the situation with “One Tree Hill” and now-disgraced creator Mark Schwahn. (BuzzFeed)

I just don’t see how it can happen because of the Schwahn issue.
And I’m still begging: no more spinoffs, reboots, or revivals. (TDW)

This largely-negative review of Fortress praises Murray for his “endearing effort.” (The New York Times)
Doherty’s role is also mentioned, but not judged.
Bethany Joy Lenz (Haley, One Tree Hill) hosted Paul Johansson (Dan, One Tree Hill), Shantel VanSanten (Quinn, One Tree Hill), Daphne Zuniga (Victoria, One Tree Hill), and Sharon Lawrence (Sylvia, One Tree Hill) at her holiday party. (E! Online)
Robert Buckley (Clay, One Tree Hill) did press for the premiere of The Christmas House 2: Deck Those Halls, which he stars in and executive-produced…

Joshua Safran (creator, Gossip Girl spinoff) is interviewed in “It’s the Stealth Queer Storytelling That Redeems Some of TV’s Nostalgic Revivals.” (Indiewire)
Also discussed is the “Saved by the Bell” revival, on which Tiffani Thiessen (Valerie, Beverly Hills, 90210) recurs, and the “Chucky” series, which features Christine Elise (Emily, Beverly Hills, 90210), Barbara Alyn Woods (Deb, One Tree Hill), and Alyvia Alyn Lind, who is Woods’ daughter and the sister of Emily Alyn Lind (Audrey, Gossip Girl spinoff).
Speaking of queer storytelling, the show’s triad is highlighted in “2021 in Review: The 25 Most Dynamic ‘Ships From ‘Gossip Girl,’ ‘WandaVision,’ ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ ‘SEAL Team’ and More.” (TVLine)
You’ll also spy Vanessa Lachey (Camille, BH90210), Badgley, and Ryan Eggold (Ryan, 90210) on the list for their romances on “NCIS: Hawaii,” “You,” and “New Amsterdam,” respectively.
The show is listed in “Best TV Reboots Of 2021.” (Decider)
Also featured on the list is the aforementioned “SBTB” continuation.
You’ll also find the show listed in “The best, worst, and weirdest pandemic TV moments of 2021.” (Mashable)
This one also features Badgley and “You,” as well as Mike White (producer, Dawson’s Creek) for his show “The White Lotus.”
And the show is also listed in “15 of the most popular shows of 2021 to watch before the year ends.” (Lifestyle Asia)
This group also includes “Midnight Mass” with Michael Trucco (Josh, Beverly Hills, 90210 / Cooper, One Tree Hill)) and “Mare of Easttown” with Peters.
The show’s fashion collaborations are discussed in “Why fashion’s love affair with TV is big business.” (Vogue Business)
Also mentioned are collabs with “Emily in Paris,” which was created by Darren Star (creator, Beverly Hills, 90210) and stars Lily Collins (Phoebe, 90210).

Whitney Peak (Zoya, Gossip Girl spinoff) opened up about starring in the new “Gossip Girl” and being a Chanel ambassador. (L’OFFICIEL)
This is amusing: “When ‘Gossip Girl’ began filming, Peak was still in high school — her set teacher was named, coincidentally, Nathaniel Archibald (the name of an original ‘Gossip Girl’ character).”
Kathryn Gallagher (Heidi, Gossip Girl spinoff) talked “‘Jagged Little Pill,’ ‘Gossip Girl’ & The Crystals That Ground Her.” (Nylon)
