Teen Drama Links for February 8, 2022
A lot of people are talking about Nate being a bad boyfriend and how despicable his dad is. But they’re not talking about “One Tree Hill.”
Rather, they’re talking about “Euphoria,” where teenager Nate is handsome and athletic, but cruel and even abusive toward his girlfriend(s). His rotten behavior is only topped by that of his father Cal, who is a bully and borderline sociopath. Both have sadistic tendencies.
On Twitter, many have drawn comparisons between the two shows’ father-son pairs, while others have pointed out how Nathan on “One Tree Hill” turns into a really wonderful person while Nate on “Euphoria” has remained horrific so far. Some have argued that Cal takes a Dan-like character to a whole ‘nother level while others still see Dan as worse than Cal. I’ve found the discourse interesting, so I thought I’d highlight a few tweets here.
As I shared in last week’s “Teen Drama Links,” there have also been stories imagining which devious TV characters could teach Nate on “Euphoria” a lesson or two, including ones from the original “Gossip Girl.” I haven’t seen Sunday’s “Euphoria” yet (I’m watching this season two episodes at a time), but I’m certainly eager to see Nate and Cal’s journeys continue, as hate-worthy as they may be.
