Teen Drama Links for October 19, 2020
“Beverly Hills, 90210” ended in 2000. “Dawson’s Creek” in 2003. “The O.C.” in 2007. “One Tree Hill” in 2012. “Gossip Girl” in 2012. “90210” in 2013.
But, boy, you wouldn’t know it by the amount of articles still written about these shows and their casts every single day.
To be fair, a good portion of these stories are junk. But a decent amount are worth looking at if you’re teen drama superfan. And if that’s the case, you’ve come to the right place.
In the spirit of the original TeenDramaWhore.com’s “News Roundups,” I’m curating the teen drama news worth checking out. Take a gander at my latest link recommendations below!
Teen Drama Links for October 19, 2020
Pop TV is airing a “Beverly Hills, 90210” Halloween marathon on Saturday, October 24, from 1:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. (TV Guide)
Obviously, this time frame is rather annoying.
They are airing all of the Halloween-themed “Beverly Hills, 90210” episodes except for season’s 10.
I’ll be taking a look at all of the Halloween teen drama episodes on… Halloween.
TV critic Amy Amatangelo argues in a new piece: “30 Years After ‘90210’ Premiered, It's Finally Time to Apologize to Brenda Walsh — and Shannen Doherty.” (Paste)
In a 2008 article, I explored how Doherty’s image got wrapped up in Brenda’s and vice versa.

A UK magazine looked back at what it calls “The bizarre moment The Cramps appeared on ‘Beverly Hills, 90210,’” even citing my 2010 interview with Larry Mollin (executive producer, Beverly Hills 90210). (Far Out)
A dispute between the cast of the original “Charmed” and the cast of The CW reboot reminds me a lot of how I feel about “Beverly Hills, 90210” versus “90210.” Some of the original “Charmed” stars seem to think the new series is just capitalizing on the O.G.’s name and brand… which is exactly how I feel about nu90210. I will be exploring these issues with “90210” in an in-depth post next month. (TVLine)
Key quote from Rose McGowan: “My quibble (google it) is about execs & producers & @wb network trading on years of my work & name in such a cynical and obvious way — a money grab to cash in on the Charmed name… This is a criticism of creators (those are the ones who should be embarrassed) with little to no imagination making bank off of years of us busting our ass to create a legacy that you are actually profiting off of us as well.” (People)
Doherty, however, has reaffirmed her support for the “Charmed” reboot. She, of course, also appeared on “90210” more than a decade after leaving “Beverly Hills, 90210). (Entertainment Weekly)
This quiz, “I Bet You Can't Guess Who Was The Oldest Actor To Play A Teen On These Shows,” tests your knowledge of the “Beverly Hills, 90210,” “The O.C.,” “One Tree Hill,” “Gossip Girl,” and “90210” casts. If only “Dawson’s Creek” was included too! (Buzzfeed)

Some officials in Wilmington, North Carolina, where “Dawson’s Creek” and “One Tree Hill” filmed (and where I live!), are pushing to formally recognize filming locations for posterity. (StarNews)
The mayor said, “The city embraces our film industry, our local base of professionals, and our rich history as a filmmaking town. We appreciate the groups who have helped make some of the local filming sites more widely known — from ‘Blue Velvet’ to ‘One Tree Hill’ and numerous others. While we haven’t had any formal conversations, we would embrace the opportunity to work with these groups and other interested parties to continue those efforts.”
Adam Brody (Seth, The O.C.) stars in and executive produces a new movie called The Kid Detective. The trailer was released just days before the film opened in theaters last Friday. (Entertainment Weekly)
In an interview promoting the film, Brody was asked about a “new read” on Seth as “kind of annoying and mean, and very judgmental.” (The Ringer)
In that interview, Brody mentions wife Leighton Meester (Blair, Gossip Girl) and how she has influenced his views on feminism.
In another interview, Brody says it’s “pretty remarkable” he and Meester have a “common bond” through both of them starring on teen dramas. (People)
In yet another interview, Brody reflected on how “The O.C.” did and didn’t affect his career trajectory. (Entertainment Tonight)
I laughed when I saw this headline, “American Tennis Pro Taylor Townsend Expecting First Child,” because of “The O.C.” character with the same name. (People)

Everything I needed to learn about the television business I learned from him. He was a real mentor. Helped guide too many iconic shows to list. One of a kind.” (Twitter)
Roth was also president of FOX from 1996 to 1998, during the run of “Beverly Hills, 90210.”

Gregory Harrison (Paul, One Tree Hill) has joined “General Hospital.” (Entertainment Weekly)
Jeffrey Dean Morgan says Los Angeles was “not conducive” for him and wife Hilarie Burton (Peyton, One Tree Hill), which is why they now live full time on a farm in New York. “I’m in charge of all the animals, and Hilarie is in charge of the gardening,” he shared. (New York Post)
Jennifer Cecil (supervising producer, One Tree Hill / co-executive producer, 90210) will write and executive produce a TV adaptation of Fried Green Tomatoes for NBC. (Variety)
“One Tree Hill” and “Gossip Girl” episodes are featured in “16 Teen Drama Election Episodes To Get You Excited About Voting.” (Buzzfeed)
