Teen Drama Links for October 27, 2020
I really respect this list of “TV's 20 Best Teen Dramas, Ranked,” even if I disagree with the rankings. The comments are very interesting as well. (TVLine)
“Beverly Hills, 90210,” “Dawson’s Creek,” “The O.C.,” “One Tree Hill,” and “Gossip Girl” are all included. Sorry, nu90210 — you didn’t make the cut!
In a few weeks, I’ll be explaining why I don’t consider many of the shows on this list to be core teen dramas but rather shows that belong in subgenres.
This is a good look back at “Grosse Pointe” and how Darren Star (creator, Beverly Hills, 90210) used “Beverly Hills, 90210” as his inspiration for the satirical series, which parodied the behind the scenes of a teen drama. (Paste)
It’s also a reminder that “BH90210” wasn’t the unprecedented genius idea some thought it was… but more on that soon.
“Away,” starring Hilary Swank (Carly, Beverly Hills, 90210), has been canceled by Netflix. (TVLine)
Christine Elise (Emily, Beverly Hills, 90210) walked back comments she made on the “Beverly Hills 90210 Show” podcast about Jessica Alba and her claim she was told not to look cast members in the eye. (Instagram)

I’ll be spotlighting one particular holiday film and its special teen drama connections next month.
“Dawson’s Creek” will begin streaming on Netflix on November 1. (Twitter)
In case you missed it, yesterday I outlined where you can watch all of the teen dramas today.
Dana Baratta, who was a writer on “Dawson’s Creek” for its first two seasons and a producer during the second, died of cancer earlier this month. My thoughts are with her family, friends, and colleagues. (Deadline)
Joshua Jackson (Pacey, Dawson’s Creek) tweeted in response to the news, “So sad to hear of Dana’s passing. I believe she is the reason I was in DC, and was a truly gentle and kind soul. My heart goes out to her loved ones tonight. RIP Dana. Thank you.” (Twitter)
John Wesley Shipp (Mitch, Dawson’s Creek) posted, “Mourning the loss of Dana Baratta today. She was there at the beginning of DAWSON’S CREEK and went on to additional memorable work. Dana wrote the famous Hurricane Episode with Kevin Williamson. A bright light with a wicked sense of humor, we honor Dana. She is missed.” (Facebook)
Baratta was also a co-executive producer of “Good Behavior,” which filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina — where “Dawson’s Creek” was shot.
James Van Der Beek (Dawson, Dawson’s Creek) co-stars in the new movie Bad Hair, which premiered on Hulu last Friday. (IMDb)
Michelle Williams (Jen, Dawson’s Creek) has exited the HBO limited series “Scenes From a Marriage” due to scheduling issues and will be replaced by Jessica Chastain. (Deadline)

Repeta still lives in Wilmington. I haven’t seen her around town, though ;-)
Scott Foley (Cliff, Dawson’s Creek) will co-host and judge “Ellen’s Next Great Designer” for HBO Max. (Deadline)
Busy Philipps (Audrey, Dawson’s Creek) and Sophia Bush (Brooke, One Tree Hill) are among female stars posting photos of themselves in pink power suits to raise attention to women exercising the right to vote. (Page Six)
A new quiz: “Which Character From ‘The O.C.’ Are You?” I got Ryan: “Brooding you may be, but bad boy you are not. You don't let a lot of people in, but the ones you do let in should be honored to have a loyal friend like you in their corner.” Accurate. (Buzzfeed)
Adam Brody (Seth, The O.C.) amusingly took the quiz on-camera and gave two shoutouts to wife Leighton Meester (Blair, Gossip Girl).
Spoiler alert! Brody discussed the ending of his new movie, The Kid Detective. (Entertainment Weekly)
In another interview tied to the film, Brody said he “never felt sandbagged or slowed down” by the success of “The O.C.” But he admitted he hasn’t watched the show in 15 years and for a time “didn’t want it to dominate everything I did.” Overall, though, he’s “happy to be a part of pop culture history.” (YouTube)
In the same chat, he went on to address the interest in his relationship with Meester and the way paparazzi attention comes and goes in waves for them.
Chad Michael Murray (Lucas, One Tree Hill) is called the “James Van Der Beek of millennials” in the introduction to a new interview. Murray and Van Der Beek, of course, worked together on “One Tree Hill.” (GQ UK)

Of course, two of them were written off: Lucas and Felix, although the former rode off into the sunset with new wife Peyton, so it was a happy ending.
“22 Times Two TV Characters Were Perfect Together Because They Were Both Legitimately Awful” includes Lucas and Peyton (Hilarie Burton, One Tree Hill), Chuck and Blair, and Dan and Serena (Blake Lively, Gossip Girl). (Buzzfeed)
