Just as all TV seasons aren’t created equal, neither are all series lengths.
At 10 seasons, “Beverly Hills, 90210” is the longest-running teen drama. “One Tree Hill” is the second-longest, going for nine seasons. That seems pretty close, right?
Think again.
These two shows aren’t actually close in length at all. In fact, the last season of “One Tree Hill” wasn’t even a full season, consisting of just 13 episodes.
What’s more significant, though, is this: “Beverly Hills, 90210” has nearly 300 episodes to its name across its 10 seasons. “One Tree Hill” has just 187 in its nine seasons. That’s a difference of more than 100 episodes.
Don’t get me wrong — it’s still remarkable there are almost 200 episodes of “One Tree Hill.” There are just over 120 of “Dawson’s Creek” and “Gossip Girl,” 114 of “90210,” and only 92 of “The O.C.” “One Tree Hill,” often on the verge of cancellation, surpassed them all. It’s quite the feat.
But it’s wild to realize that the two longest-running shows among our core teen dramas actually have a tremendous gap between them.
“Beverly Hills, 90210” didn’t just come first and set the blueprint for the genre. It’s the undisputed king — nothing else even comes close.

On a much lighter note, I was on yesterday’s edition of the “Non Judging Breakfast Podcast.” The name, of course, is a reference to an iconic “Gossip Girl” scene, but, ironically, we did a lot of judging — specifically, of episode 2.21, “Seder Anything.” It was a fun conversation and I thank Leif and Steve for having me on!
