Teen Drama Links for June 21, 2022
When a friend asked me to see Top Gun: Maverick, there was one problem: I hadn’t seen Top Gun. That changed the night before our movie plans.
After watching, I told my friend I enjoyed the original film enough to be happy we were seeing the sequel (which I really liked). But I didn’t mention one thing that really made me smile and stuck with me. In the first movie, Kelly McGillis’ Charlie drives a VERY familiar car.
It’s practically identical to Dylan’s car in “Beverly Hills, 90210”!
In actuality, it’s said Top Gun used a replica of the 1958 Porsche 356 while “Beverly Hills, 90210” used a 1964 Porsche 356. No matter, seeing the car in Top Gun made me so happy. Even if I ended up hating the movie, I at least would’ve liked it because of that aspect. Because it reminded me of my favorite show and one of my favorite characters and my favorite cast member.
But let’s give credit where it’s due: Top Gun used the car first. The film came out in 1986 while “Beverly Hills, 90210” didn’t premiere until 1990. I’d still pick Dylan over Maverick, though!
