“Welcome to paradise, man.”
It’s a line of dialogue from “Beverly Hills, 90210” (and one I’ve referenced before), but man, oh, man, right now I really want to welcome you all to “Paradise.”
If you haven’t seen any of the online buzz over the last two months, “Paradise” is a new Hulu series from “This Is Us” creator Dan Fogelman and starring “This Is Us” Emmy winner Sterling K. Brown. Some recent editions of this newsletter have mentioned the show because it also stars Sarah Shahi, who was on “Dawson’s Creek,” and she’s done a number of interviews over the course of the season that I’ve collected for “Teen Drama Links.”
The show’s trailer reveals Brown plays a Secret Service agent under suspicion after the murder of the president. I really can’t describe the plot beyond that because to say any more would spoil the show’s twists. However, I would describe the series as “Lost” meets “This Is Us,” which is not the impression you get from the trailer.
The seventh episode of the eight-episode season was, quite frankly, one of the best episodes of television I’ve ever seen. That’s how incredible this series is. Admittedly, I found last week’s season finale anticlimactic and the weakest of all the episodes, but the whole thing is absolutely worth watching and I can’t wait for season 2. I also can’t wait to see if Brown and co-star James Marsden are nominated for Emmys for their roles, which they absolutely should be.
This viewing recommendation feels strange because I’m being awfully vague, but if you’ve watched, you know why, and if you decide to watch, well, you’ll see why. You may not want to live in the city of Paradise depicted on “Paradise,” but you may find bingeing a show this good is its own form of paradise.
NOTE: There will be no “Teen Drama Links” next week, as I will be out of the country. “Teen Drama Links” will return on March 25.
