Though I wasn’t able to do reaction tweets last week, I must rant about one aspect of last Monday’s “Drama Queens.”
In response to a fan question, Sophia Bush and Bethany Joy Lenz lamented Peyton and Lucas barely being mentioned and incorporated into seasons 7 through 9. I share that complaint fiercely. It’s one of my (many) gripes with the later seasons.
But Bush and Lenz also said things like this...
“I don’t even remember where they moved. Where did they go?”
“I don’t know why they left or where they moved. Did Lucas get [a job?] ‘Cause he can write from anywhere.”
“I feel like I remember a West Coast thing or that they wanted to travel while he wrote his next novel.”
Um, what? Lucas and Peyton literally drive off into the sunset in the season 6 finale and no context — location, reason, anything — is given. No explanation for their absence is provided in the season 7 premiere or later.
Where the heck did Bush and Lenz get these ideas about going to the West Coast or Luke’s career being a factor? You watched these episodes not that long ago. It’s not a lot to expect you to remember it more accurately than this. And if you were truly unsure, Google is your friend.
Now, to be fair, “9021OMG” also had its issues last week, but that’s par for the course with that podcast. There were tangents, factual errors, cluelessness, infinite dumb statements from Amy (including that she can’t be fired... rolls eyes). These Instagram comments about it are spot-on.
But it’s frustrating that not only did Bush and Lenz miss a layup here, but multiple major outlets — such as People, Entertainment Weekly, and Us Weekly — picked up their remarks and repeated them verbatim without any fact-checking or proper context.
Again, Bush and Lenz’s general criticism was legitimate. But details matter and I can’t stand when any of these hosts contribute to misinformation.
