In the lead-up to Valentine’s Day in 2010, I took a look at my favorite teen drama Valentine’s Day episodes on the original TeenDramaWhore — but my list was incomplete.
As I noted at the time, “One Tree Hill” and “Gossip Girl” hadn’t given us any Valentine’s-themed episodes. As such, I was able to pick my favorites for “Beverly Hills, 90210,” “Dawson’s Creek,” “The O.C.,” and “90210,” but not for those two. Well, times changed!
Both “One Tree Hill” and “Gossip Girl” later delivered some V-Day storylines, so I figured today is as good a time as any to take a look at them… even if they still wouldn’t have made my “favorites” list.
One Tree Hill
Episode 8.15, “Valentine’s Day Is Over”
The show’s four core couples at the time — Haley & Nathan, Brooke & Julian, Quinn & Clay, and Millicent & Mouth — all have relationship-focused storylines, but whether they’re funny, sexy, or romantic varies by couple. The episode aired on February 15, 2011, and was the only time the series covered Valentine’s Day, a result of the show’s calendar often not matching up with our real-life calendar. It should also be noted this hour was directed by Paul Johansson (Dan).
Gossip Girl
Episode 4.15, “It-Girl Happened One Night”
This installment actually aired on Valentine’s Day on February 14, 2011. The central event is a Valentine’s Day fundraiser thrown by Chuck so he can maintain control of Bass Industries. The romance aspect comes from Chuck’s pursuit of Raina, but the episode is perhaps most notable for kicking off the Dan-Blair connection that blossoms later in the season.
Episode 5.15, “Crazy, Cupid, Love”
Like many “Gossip Girl” episodes, this one, which aired on February 13, 2012, is quite convoluted, with Blair scheming to get Serena and Dan back together and Georgina running a scheme of own. What’s more is that this hour is one of many that makes the series-ending reveal that Dan was Gossip Girl nonsensical. And while I’m a Derena shipper, this episode is really more of a treat for Dair fans.

I’m on season 1 of GG right now xoxo 💋 Gossip hounds - I like the idea of an Dair pairing. It’s more cerebral and witty repartee as opposed to kiss kiss “I gotta go”
