ICYMI: December's Premium TDW Content
During TeenDramaWhore on Substack’s second full month of existence, there were five news roundups, four in-depth essays, and one very special Zoom chat — all exclusively for TDW’s premium subscribers.
If you missed any of these offerings, here’s your chance to get caught up and become a premium subscriber yourself.
Being a Jewish Teen Drama Fan
In this essay, I shared my personal perspective as a Jewish teen drama fan when most teen dramas don’t feature Jewish characters.
I confessed that I am no longer a fan of Chrismukkah on “The O.C.” and explained why.
I revealed why “Beverly Hills, 90210” had the most meaningful Jewish storylines to me.
Living in Capeside and Tree Hill
Here I recounted my move from Long Island to Wilmington, North Carolina, where “Dawson’s Creek” and “One Tree Hill” were filmed.
I shared why I still haven’t visited some of the filming locations.
I revealed which teen drama stars live locally.
Separating "One Tree Hill" From Mark Schwahn
In this essay on a very sensitive subject, I examined the consequences of Schwahn’s sexual misconduct and its effects on fans.
I asked these two questions: Can you love the creation and hate the creator? Can you support the art without supporting the artist?
I highlighted comments from both cast members and fans on the situation.
The Evolution of LGBTQ Teen Drama Characters
In this essay, I examined how LGBTQ characters were depicted on the teen dramas, from Kyle on “Beverly Hills, 90210” to Teddy on “90210” (and virtually everyone in between).
I reported how “Dawson’s Creek” was praised for its groundbreaking work in this department while “Gossip Girl” producer Joshua Safran confessed not having more LGBTQ storylines is one of his regrets that he’s hoping to make right with the spinoff.
I also acknowledged that as a cis, straight woman, I realize it isn’t really my place to judge which LGBTQ storylines were successful or not successful. But I thought tracing the evolution of LBGTQ characters in the genre was important regardless.
Teen Drama Links for December 1, 2020
This post-Thanksgiving news roundup was surprisingly stuffed!
Highlights included the teen drama stars who made this year’s “Sexiest Man Alive” list, a critical look at “BH90210” versus the “Saved by the Bell” reboot, and quite a few articles on the “Gossip Girl” Thanksgiving episodes.
Teen Drama Links for December 8, 2020
With news about “One Tree Hill” and “90210” producers embarking on new projects, I wondered if fans feel compelled to follow cast and crew members from show to show.
Links included must-see videos from the “Beverly Hills 90210 Show” podcast’s subscriber-only Patreon, an article in which a “Gilmore Girls” director who also directed for “Gossip Girl” and “90210” criticized “teenybopper shows,” and quizzes galore.
Teen Drama Links for December 15, 2020
This installment started with a thought-provoking question: Would you want your favorite TV show to be renewed for five more seasons? Or would you want to be able to bring back a character who left the show? Or would you want to meet your favorite cast member? Or would you like to be able to forget all the episodes so you could watch the series again for the first time? I, of course, shared my own answer.
There was news on Tori Spelling, Busy Philipps, Benjamin McKenzie, Chris Pratt, Chad Michael Murray, Taylor Momsen, and more.
Teen Drama Links for December 22, 2020
This edition began with details on a Zoom chat I participated in with the cast of “One Tree Hill,” all for a good cause: VoterRiders.
The teen drama reunion theme continued with comments from “Beverly Hills, 90210” cast and crew members on potentially doing another show, as well as Rachel Bilson talking about a hypothetical “O.C.” holiday special.
Teen Drama Links for December 29, 2020
For the last roundup for the year, I reflected on 2020 and how the lows of this year — the pandemic — led to some of my highs… like restarting TeenDramaWhore.
There was also plenty of news related to all six of our beloved teen dramas, including a recap of the “Beverly Hills 90210 Show” podcast’s star-studded “Super Deluxe Christmas Party” and a roundup of all the “Gossip Girl” - “Bridgerton” comparisons.
FULL VIDEO: Zoom Chat with Charles Rosin
I was ecstatic to kick off our quarterly private Zoom chats with a very special guest of honor: Charles “Chuck” Rosin, the executive producer of “Beverly Hills, 90210” for its first five seasons.
For more than an hour, Rosin answered questions and had an intimate conversation with a small group of fans, all of whom were invited to participate as part of their premium TDW subscription.
What a month! And as a year-end treat for everyone, yesterday I shared with all readers a new interview I did with Bevin Prince of “One Tree Hill.”
In January, premium subscribers can look forward to two more interviews exclusively for them: one with a fellow teen drama fan who has an unpopular but very interesting teen drama opinion and one with a “Dawson’s Creek” cast member.
To ensure you don’t miss out on those special interviews, plus more in-depth essays and the weekly “Teen Drama Links,” be sure to become a premium TeenDramaWhore subscriber today!
And may I be the first to wish you all a Happy New Year!
