REACTION: Gossip Girl Spinoff Episode 2.07
HBO Max released the seventh episode of the “Gossip Girl” spinoff’s second season on Thursday.
Episode 2.07 is called, “Dress Me Up! Dress Me Down!” The official synopsis reads, “While Audrey stresses over Kiki’s launch and juggling her father and his new girlfriend, Gossip Girl drives a wedge between her and Julien. Max attempts to impress Audrey’s father. Kate recommits herself to Gossip Girl — and takes Obie up on his offer. Monet’s mother, Camille, befriends Zoya.”
The episode was written by Tiffany So. It was directed by Jennifer Lynch.

Eleanor is back! Nice surprise.
I wouldn’t have guessed that was Georgina posting on Gossip Girl and not Kate.
I still don’t understand Georgina’s endgame. She cares why? She’s being so menacing why?
Is naming Audrey’s dad’s girlfriend Jessica a nod to original “Gossip Girl” co-executive producer Jessica Queller? Or a nod to Jessica Szhor?
Queller’s name was already used as the inspiration for Headmistress Queller on the original show.
“The White Lotus” reference means I have to point out (yes, for the umpteenth time) that the show was created by Mike White (producer, Dawson’s Creek).
Jessica wanting to go on “Stop the Story” isn’t to actually clear the air and apologize, right? Probably just the opposite.
You know I follow politics too much because I originally typed that as “Stop the Steal.”
Seeing Julien and Audrey argue is actually a nice change of pace.
I still love Max and Luna’s friendship.
It’s endearing that Max cares about his relationship with Audrey so much that he’s desperate to impress her dad, but that’s a storyline done already on 8347949571 shows.
I also still wish Max and Audrey were a couple and not a throuple.
Camille probably has a secret motive for cozying up to Zoya, right?
I do not like the actor playing Audrey’s dad. Bad acting? Par for the course with this show, I guess.
I didn’t expect it to come out that Julien was feeding Gossip Girl — or for Julien herself to reveal it.
“Basic Blair and Serena” LOL.
But it doesn’t quite work since viewers now see Monet and Julien as Blair and Serena, not Julien and Audrey.
Something about Zoya spending time with Monet’s mom and Monet questioning it and being bothered reminds me of Gina spending time with Felice on “Beverly Hills, 90210” and Donna questioning it and being bothered.
“Most illicit affair” to date? This reveal is going to be underwhelming if it’s something we already know.
So Jessica DID have a secret motive.
Doesn’t Julien usually do these videos live? Pretty convenient that she was recording this time. But pretty convenient Jessica was also recording.
I love Audrey’s dress at the luncheon.
Are we going down the Obie and Julien path again?
I can’t remember if we know anything about Georgina’s mom from the original show.
Zoya’s dress has serious Brenda-Kelly at the Spring Dance vibes!
Duh, Jordan knew Georgina was Georgina and not “Sarah.” I don’t know why I didn’t realize that in their first scene.
But what is the leverage Georgina has on him?
Setting up Aki and Julien for a fake affair is not nearly as juicy as a real illicit affair.
I went to college with Kurt Soller. And now he’s on “Gossip Girl.” Well done.
He works for The New York Times, so, you know, well done even before this.
The guy hitting on Luna is kinda cute. Is the show finally setting up a genuine Luna storyline?
So Kate draws the line at drugging teenagers. Good to know.
Now Helena wants to make nice with Otto? What changed her mind?
Julien and Audrey physically tussling does have Blair and Serena vibes.
Audrey has a good point about Julien often being the common denominator.
There is no way Georgina is giving up just because Kate did a post on teachers.
Kate developing feelings for Jordan was predictable.
It’s also a bit anticlimactic that we didn’t see the kiss happen in real time.
And Jordan is definitely MIA because of Georgina, right?
I don’t get why Georgina cares about whether Monet or Julien is on top of the social hierarchy.
Why isn’t Zoya bothered that information about her sex life is out there via Gossip Girl when she worked so hard in the last episode to stop that from happening?
Why would Kate believe Georgina and Jordan slept together? Why would Jordan sleep with her, knowing who she is?
Just when I thought we were getting another Nick-free episode…
I guess it’s kinda of a nice parallel between Julien / Obie and Zoya / Nick with both pairs wanting to go back to who they used to be and the way things were.
The “Harriet the Spy” reference was just because of Michelle Trachtenberg, I imagine.
Wait, did we actually get an episode that didn’t end explicitly on Kate stuff?!
And yet the ending scene, where things go with Kate and Obie, was spoiled in the synopsis.
I was surprised by how many times I paused this episode to take notes. That isn’t necessarily a good thing, though. I mean, look how many plot turns in this hour were completely predictable. However, there was minimal Aki again — that I approve of. But where has Mike disappeared to?
I have to admit I do feel chemistry between Obie and Julien. I did last season with their protest kiss too. But to go down this path for a third time within two seasons… I just feel like we’re not seeing enough originality with this “Gossip Girl,” and the originality we do see isn’t very good.
In the Screen Rant interview I shared earlier this week, creator Joshua Safran hyped this episode up as a “big turning point” in terms of the Kate-Georgina storyline. But Georgina’s return has been nothing short of underwhelming and confusing, and how is Kate vowing to go harder or bigger with Gossip Girl a turning point? Hasn’t she made this attempt to varying degrees before?
I feel like I’m waiting for something with this show that isn’t coming. Shame on me for continuing to have even a modicum of hope.
