ICYMI: November's Premium TDW Content
On November 2, the reincarnation of TeenDramaWhore.com on Substack went to the next level with premium subscriptions. What followed exclusively for these special subscribers were five in-depth essays, four “Teen Drama Links,” and one video interview.
If you haven’t signed up yet to be a premium subscriber, here’s what you missed this month…
My Problem with nu90210
This essay delves into my issues with “90210,” The CW spinoff of “Beverly Hills, 90210.”
I explain how “90210” was conceived and marketed to capitalize on the “Beverly Hills, 90210” brand — plain and simple.
Included are takes from the original series’ producers.
My Problem with BH90210
Similar to the above, this essay details my issues with “BH90210” in a brief 6,000 words.
I highlight how the cast members flip-flopped over the years about returning to the zip code that made them famous.
Included is a roundup of critical reviews of “BH90210” that prove it hurt, not helped, the iconic show’s legacy.
Why I Owe Josh Schwartz an Apology
Even self-professed teen drama experts get things wrong from time to time. And, boy, was I wrong when I predicted the imminent failure of “Gossip Girl.”
This essay recaps interviews I conducted in 2007 with TV critics and teen drama fans shortly after “Gossip Girl” premiered.
I then delve into how the show became a pop culture phenomenon, contrary to my predictions… hence my mea culpa to creator Josh Schwartz.
The Passing of Luke Perry
It took me more than a year and half after Perry’s death to write this tribute.
I explain why his tragic, unexpected passing at just 52 years old left me devastated and why I still haven’t gotten over it.
Included is a moving video masterfully created by a fellow fan.
Meeting Your Idols
This essay, which just came out this morning, is a follow-up of sorts to “Being a Fan, Not a Sycophant.”
I explore how meeting Jennie Garth (Kelly, Beverly Hills, 90210), and later Charles Rosin (executive producer, Beverly Hills, 90210), changed the way I view the people behind our favorite shows.
I also touch on the ways social media has brought celebrities and fans closer together… and farther apart.
Teen Drama Links for November 4, 2020
This was the first edition of my signature news roundup exclusively for premium subscribers.
Included were recent articles about the teen dramas, their casts, and their producers. There was even a quiz that was just perfect for teen drama fans like us.
Teen Drama Links for November 10, 2020
This installment explored clickbait and how such articles suck us in, including Buzzfeed’s never-ending teen drama lists.
Links covered everyone from Lindsay Price and Olivia Wilde to Chad Michael Murray and Chace Crawford.
Teen Drama Links for November 17, 2020
This roundup began with a question: Who’s your TV boyfriend? Among the links was a quiz that promised to tell you based on your answers to more than a dozen questions.
There was also news on Jason Priestley, Cress Williams, James Van Der Beek, Sasha Alexander, Shailene Woodley, AnnaLynne McCord, and more.
Teen Drama Links for November 24, 2020
The last edition of “Teen Drama Links” for November also started with a question: When you think about the most successful teen drama star of all time, who comes to mind?
I asked because Hilary Swank, Jensen Ackles, Chris Pratt, Blake Lively, Jessica Walter, and more teen drama stars were just nominated for a new awards show.
VIDEO: Full Interview with Nicholas Pryor of Beverly Hills, 90210
I was honored to be asked by Larry Mollin (executive producer, Beverly Hills, 90210) to interview Pryor — aka Chancellor Arnold, father of Clare — at his home near where I live in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Pryor and I discussed not only his role on the show, but also his decades-long career and working with wife Christine Belford (Samantha, Beverly Hills, 90210).
His memories of Perry were heartwarming. His reaction to Shannen Doherty’s (Brenda, Beverly Hills, 90210) cancer battle was heartbreaking.
On top of all this exclusive content, premium subscribers also got to enjoy a fun Teen Drama Trivia Night. TDW reader Connie was our big winner and her prize arrived a few days ago.
