Teen Drama Links for March 14, 2023
Welp, Michelle Williams didn’t win at Sunday’s Oscars — though no one really expected her to.
The critical consensus seems to be that Williams and her camp made a fundamental error in pursuing the Best Actress category for her role in The Fabelmans instead of Best Supporting Actress. When I saw The Fabelmans, it definitely seemed like a leading part to me. Alas, the issue is moot now. But hopefully one day, Williams will get her due.
As for the rest of the Academy Awards, it was nice to see Williams and her Fabelmans co-star Seth Rogen, who appeared on an episode of “Dawson’s Creek,” get shoutouts in host Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue. Eva Longoria, who appeared on “Beverly Hills, 90210,” was among the ceremony’s presenters, but that was pretty much it as far as teen drama connections go — although a number of TD stars were at various Oscars parties.
I was very happy to see Lady Gaga perform at the show, as I really like “Hold My Hand.” Rihanna gave a stunning performance, one I much prefer to her Super Bowl Halftime Show. And I have to say I am just in awe of Paul Mescal, whom I’ve loved since “Normal People.” To get his first Best Actor nomination now at 27 with a long career still ahead of him — it’s truly amazing.
And with that, awards season is over!
