I wonder what/where Kelly is studying today? Too bad they didn't ask her!

Did you ever hear the rumours that Kelly was dating or hooking up with Ben during The OC? I thought about that when they said that she was just 13 years older than Adam and could have dated the actor who played her son :) I also thought about that when she said Ben is the one who made her laugh the most.

I spent a few days in Victoria, BC over the Christmas break. Had no idea she lived there!

I'm not sure if I heard right (was walking my pup while listening), but did Rachel really say/strongly hint at Samaire also dating or seeing Adam during the filming of S1? If yes, it's the first time I hear about it! I watched The OC 10 years after it was on though, so it's possible that it' a well-known fact and it just flew under my radar.

I also saw the Spielberg typo in the ep description!

I thought it was interesting that they thought it was cute/endearing that Sandy was like "I understand why you hesitate between these two girls, Anna is so smart, but Summer... wouuhh!" (Not the exact phrasing but that was basically it). I'm currently rewatching The OC with a friend who has never seen it before, and we bought cringed at this scene during this ep. Just awkward to have a dad in his late 30s/early 40s comment on how attractive a 16 years old girl is, especially the "Wouuhh". It's also not the only time Sandy Cohen says something like that, with this kind of tone, about Summer... There was another cringey line, if I remember correctly, in the S1 episode where where the kids go to TJ. Not a huge deal, The OC aged better than most other shows, and there are definitely cringier lines in other shows, but I was surprised Melinda and Rachel did not notice it.

Also, not a big deal, but UC Berkeley is spelled Berkeley, not Berkley ;). I went there and so many of my friends from my hometown made that mistake haha. You're not the only one!

I also wonder what Kelly is studying!

No, I've never heard those rumors! That is... really interesting, ha.

I don't think Rachel was intending to suggest that there was actually something going on between Adam and Samaire romantically, but that they, as the women fighting onscreen over a guy, felt some tension offscreen because of it. Almost like they took it too seriously.

That's a really interesting and fair point about Sandy's comments (and you are remembering the other episode correctly!). An argument can be made that those lines / reactions didn't age well (or that they were even creepy and inappropriate at the time), but Rachel and Melinda haven't seemed willing to constructively criticize the show much or highlight faults / flaws.

Oh my god, thank you! I kept thinking "Berkley" looked funny! Ha! Fixing that now...

Lol those those rumours are indeed interesting! But to be honest I find it less shocking/problematic if Ben had a fling or dated Kelly than if he had dated Mischa, even if his age gap with Mischa was smaller than the one with Kelly. I feel like the age gap is no problematic when it's one person in their mid-20s and the other one in their late 30s.

You're right, it does seem like Melinda & Rachel aren't willing to mention things they find problematic. It's interesting that they shy away from this because as they were actresses and not writers or producers on the show, it's not their fault at all!

Haha ;) A lot of people also confuse UC Berkeley with "Berklee", which is a small liberal art college in Massachusetts. I swear I spent more time correcting my friends/family than studying hahah.

Your point is one that's always kind of fascinated me -- when an age difference matters and when it doesn't. It's not weird for 65-year-old to be in a relationship with a 60-year-old, but a 20-year-old and a 15-year-old would be a definite no-no.

No, it isn't their fault at all, but I can understand them feeling a sense of loyalty and wanting to keep things positive. But there's still a long way to go, so we'll see if anything changes and if any constructive criticism comes about.

Ha! What did you study?
