In December 2020, I subscribed to zero streaming services.
Today, nearly four years later, I’m subscribed to six.
I have...
Hulu/Disney+/Max bundle ($32.09)
Paramount+ ($13.90)
Netflix ($16.57)
Amazon Prime Video ($16.04)
... at a total cost of $78.60 per month.
Do I use all of these services frequently enough to warrant that spend? Absolutely not.
Most months, I only use one service. (Right now, I am using Max weekly to rewatch “One Tree Hill” along with the “Drama Queens” podcast.) The rest remain dormant yet I stay subscribed.
In other words, I am just throwing away money. Why don’t I just unsubscribe and resubscribe if and when I need them? I have no idea. Maybe I find comfort in knowing they’re ready and waiting for me when I want to watch something… even though I rarely do.
And what a petty #firstworld problem to even lament this hit to my wallet, a hit I choose to take month after month. In fact, it’s not even a “#firstworld” problem. There’s plenty of people in this country who can’t afford even one streaming service and here I am taking six subscriptions for granted. I recognize my privilege.
All this to say… if you want access to a streamer to watch one of the teen dramas but can’t afford it, let me know. I’d be more than happy to buy you a gift card to the streaming service of your choice.
