‘Tis the damn season for someone to turn “‘Tis the Damn Season” into a bittersweet holiday movie.
Even since Taylor Swift dropped Evermore in December 2020, I’ve been waiting for someone to announce a film based on this song.
In case you’re not familiar with the track (and if so, what is wrong with you?!), the lyrics tell the story of a woman who returns to her hometown during the holidays and temporarily reunites with her former love. Unlike the holiday movies you’ll find on the Hallmark Channel and Lifetime, this tale doesn’t have a happy ending. But the story Swift sings is incredibly cinematic, and while its counterpart track “Dorothea” doesn’t have the same holiday vibes, together they are ripe for an adaptation.
Of course, I highly doubt Swift would ever sell the rights to adapt the song into a movie, but after getting All Too Well: The Short Film, maybe one day she’ll turn to the screen herself for this track as well. I’d love to see “Tolerate It” and “Champagne Problems,” also from Evermore, as films, too.
A girl can dream.
In the meantime, I should probably start reading these.
