Is it possible to love something and be offended by it at the same time?
That’s where I’m at with “Nobody Wants This.”
I was sold from the first episode. Adam Brody and Kristen Bell had wonderful romantic chemistry and played off each other’s comedy so well. I really liked the show overall.
BUT… I do think there were some problematic things from a Jewish perspective, especially some stereotypical portrayals of Jewish women that do nothing to help us be better understood in this post-October 7 world. (The one-year anniversary of that tragedy was just yesterday.)
I’ve written before about watching the teen dramas as a Jewish fan and I’ve spent the last week thinking a lot about the below perspectives on “Nobody Wants This” — a lot of which I agree with.
Amidst all the well-deserved praise for the show, I encourage you to open yourself up to this aspect of the discourse as well, especially if you aren’t Jewish.
