What if there was a lost episode of [insert your favorite teen drama]?
I’ve had a recurring dream for years in which I discover an episode of “Beverly Hills, 90210” that I’ve somehow never seen before.
I am always stunned, in total shock that a seemingly missing episode is suddenly being aired. I’m also in a state of glee over getting to see something “new” from my favorite show. The plot is different every time I have this dream and I don’t even remember any of the fictional storylines my mind makes up.
Of course, for those watching “Beverly Hills, 90210” for the first time via streaming, there already are “lost episodes.” Dozens of episodes are missing from streaming platforms due to music rights issues. For those viewers, the episodes are indeed lost (though still available to watch via DVD).
I do chuckle whenever someone posts in a “One Tree Hill” Facebook group I’m in about suddenly discovering there’s a “14th episode” in the show’s final season that they’ve never seen before. In actuality, what those Hulu streamers think is an extra episode is just the special retrospective The CW aired before broadcasting the series finale.
But I can’t blame these fans for getting their hopes up. While I am firmly against spinoffs, reboots, and revivals, I understand wanting more of your favorite thing. As my recurring dream shows, deep down, I really wish there were lost episodes so I could fall in love with my beloved teen dramas anew.
