It’s time for a few nights at The Roxbury.
Long before I fell in love with the O. Henry Hotel in Greensboro, North Carolina, I was in love with a boutique motel in Roxbury, New York, appropriately called The Roxbury.
Why, you ask? What’s so special about a motel in this tiny upstate town?
Well, almost every room, suite, and cottage is based on an old-school movie or TV show. In other words, it’s heaven for a pop culture junkie like me.
You can stay in accommodations themed around “The Flintstones,” Breakfast at Tiffany’s, “Bewitched,” “The Mod Squad,” “The Partridge Family,” “Charlie’s Angels,” The Sound of Music, “Gilligan’s Island,” The Wizard of Oz, Saturday Night Fever, Austin Powers, “The Jetsons,” Star Trek, “The Addams Family,” “Dallas,” Indiana Jones, Cinderella, Wonder Woman, Dracula, and more.
During my first two visits almost 10 years ago, I stayed in “Genie’s Bottle” — a suite inspired by “I Dream of Jeannie.” And that’s exactly where I’ll be for the rest of this week.
Though I scheduled this respite months ago, the timing is fortuitous. Life, everyday life, has been really hard for the last month. An escape like this, however temporary, is a blessing. And while depressed people shouldn’t really be alone (and I have felt terribly alone for the last month), I am really looking forward to isolating myself for a few days.
I am sure I will still be glued to the news. I can’t leave reality behind entirely. Nor should I stop bearing witness when so many are suffering and don’t have the luxury that I do to take a road trip for a few days. I am fully aware of my privilege.
But now, if you'll excuse me, I’m off to be a genie in a bottle.
SAG-AFTRA Strike Update
IT’S OVER! Last Wednesday, SAG-AFTRA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers reached a tentative agreement on a new contract between the actors union and the studio. The strike officially ended hours later, though the guild’s members still need to ratify the new agreement in the weeks ahead.
In the meantime, Hollywood is slowly getting back to business as usual. In terms of what that means for our teen drama world, “9021OMG” and “Drama Queens” can resume having cast mates on their podcasts to discuss “Beverly Hills, 90210” and “One Tree Hill,” respectively, as they are no longer struck work. Actors can do interviews and specifically discuss their projects. And any new productions they are signed to or about to sign to can move forward.
I think we can now close the book on this special strike section in “Teen Drama Links.” Hurrah!

Several articles like this wrongly claimed these photos are from the show’s “20th anniversary celebration.” They aren’t. These are from the “Holiday in Wilmington” weekend.
These articles also falsely claimed Chad Michael Murray (Lucas, One Tree Hill) wasn’t in attendance at the weekend event. He was — he just wasn’t there on the day these photos were taken.
