Welcome, new readers!
For those of you whose first experience with TeenDramaWhore was last week’s “Welcome to the OC, Bitches” podcast, this is TDW’s signature weekly post, “Teen Drama Links.”
On the original TeenDramaWhore.com, nearly every day I would post a “News Roundup” featuring the day’s news related to the teen dramas — the shows themselves, their casts and their crews. When I reinvented TDW on Substack in 2020, “News Roundup” morphed into the once-a-week “Teen Drama Links,” though the concept remains the same. (You can read more about the return of TeenDramaWhore and the origins of my teen drama fandom.)
Every Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. ET, you’re treated to a curated roundup of news, feature stories, photo galleries and lists related to the teen drama genre — in particular, “Beverly Hills, 90210,” “Dawson’s Creek,” “The O.C.,” “One Tree Hill,” “Gossip Girl” (old and new), and “90210.” Each edition is a roundup of everything that came out since the last edition that I, as a TeenDramaWhore, think is worth sharing. There are things I miss sometimes and sometimes things I purposely leave out due to their quality, redundancy, political incorrectness, etc., but the idea is to compile every worthy thing related to the genre to make it easy for fellow fans to stay up to date. Essentially, I do all the research and newsgathering so you don’t have to!
The format of this post has evolved over time but today is broken up into two sections: “Listicle Links” and “Best of the Rest.” In “Listicle Links,” you’ll find lists, photogalleries and articles that have to do with the teen dramas in some way. Typically at the top are BuzzFeed listicles, as they were the inspiration for this section — there got to be so many of them that I started grouping them together. Then I’ll include links by show, chronologically based on premiere date, followed by numbered lists (i.e., 15 Times the Teen Dramas Made You Cry). This section wraps up with stories often having to do with celebrities or fashion, but again, have some kind of teen drama connection. Then, in “Best of the Rest,” you’ll find the heart of “Teen Drama Links” — the latest news about and interviews with teen drama stars, producers, writers, directors, etc. These also appear in chronological order by show.
The length of each installment varies (today’s is on the shorter side), and the portion up top (aka, right here) usually features some musings from me on something newsy or something I’ve watched recently. If you’re ever confused on why something was included in the roundup or its teen drama connection isn’t clear to you, feel free to email me or drop a comment below. I always enjoy receiving feedback and really love interacting with the TDW community here, on Twitter, and on Facebook, so please don’t hesitate to share any thoughts.
When you sign up for the TeenDramaWhore mailing list, “Teen Drama Links” is delivered directly to your inbox and/or Substack app each week. This subscription is completely FREE. (Full disclosure: I did have a separate paid / premium membership for a time, which included exclusive access to “Teen Drama Links,” but TDW will remain free of charge for the foreseeable future.) That said, there is always a “Support TDW” button at the bottom of each roundup if you’d like to financially contribute (via Buy Me a Coffee) to TDW, which I’ve always operated at a deficit.
I am so excited to welcome more people into the TeenDramaWhore family. In the months ahead, I’ll be hosting my next “Teen Drama Trivia” event and bringing back private Zoom chats with the genre’s key players, while still occasionally delivering monthly posts on different teen drama subjects. Although the core teen dramas, apart from the “Gossip Girl” spinoff, are no longer on the air, it’s a great time to be a teen drama fan. Whether you’re a casual viewer or a fanatic, new to TDW or a veteran reader going back to 2008, I’m glad you’re here!
