Teen Drama Links for October 4, 2022
Thirty-two years ago today I was 3.
Thirty-two years ago today I had no idea that what would become my all-time favorite show was premiering on television.
But on October 4, 1990, a show called “Beverly Hills, 90210” made its debut on FOX with an extra-long episode.
I hadn’t a clue at the time, of course. Who knows what I was watching then. Surely something far more age-appropriate.
But isn’t it wild that something happened that day and I had no idea until years later how it would impact my life? How it would change my life. How it would shape me.
October 4, 1990, was probably just like any other day for 3-year-old me at the time.
In hindsight, though, it was a life-changing day and I just didn’t know it yet.
I am who I am today because of “Beverly Hills, 90210.”
I am who I am today because on that day, FOX premiered a new show.
It took a few years for our paths to cross (as detailed here and here), but I don’t want to imagine a life where they didn’t.
I don’t want to imagine a life without October 4, 1990.

Ian Ziering (Steve, Beverly Hills, 90210) and estranged wife Erin have settled their divorce. (The Blast)
Ziering is wrongly referred to here as “‘90210’ star.” More embarrassingly, the piece says he “played Steve on the massive sitcom ‘90210.’” Ziering did not star on “90210” — he starred on “Beverly Hills, 90210.” And neither show is a sitcom.
Mark Calderon reflected on his group Color Me Badd appearing on “Beverly Hills, 90210.” (Tulsa World)
It’s also embarrassing how many times this article says “90201,” both because of the typo and because Color Me Badd was on “Beverly Hills, 90210” — not “90210.”
An article this week, which I’m not linking to, claimed the potential podcast James Van Der Beek (Dawson, Dawson’s Creek) was in talks with SiriusXM for was going to be a “Dawson’s Creek” rewatch podcast — but a source with whom I spoke expressed skepticism when asked about the accuracy of that.
