Teen Drama Links for September 13, 2022
Damn you, “Dancing with the Stars.”
Just when I think I’m out, you pull me back in.
When it was announced earlier this year that “Dancing with the Stars” would move from ABC to Disney+, I just figured… Well, I guess I won’t be watching anymore. I don’t have Disney+ and didn’t feel the need to subscribe just to watch “DWTS.” I would keep up with the show via articles and video clips.
That was my plan, at least, until last week’s cast announcement.
With the reveal that Trevor Donovan (Teddy, 90210) and Jason Lewis (Rob, Beverly Hills, 90210) are competing, how can I not watch? I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t interested in seeing some of the other contestants too, like Gabby Windey of “The Bachelorette,” Selma Blair, Wayne Brady, Jordin Sparks, and CODA star Daniel Durant.
Sure, there are others in the cast whom I’m not particularly interested in at all, but I was really surprised by the names the show managed to get, especially with the series being relegated to a streaming service instead of primetime broadcast television.
And Mark Ballas is back?!
I’m going to have to subscribe to Disney+.
I’m not thrilled about watching the show on my computer, but this is a season I definitely want to see unfold.
It should be noted Donovan is following in the footsteps of several other teen drama series regulars who have competed on “Dancing with the Stars” — namely, Ian Ziering, Jennie Garth, Shannen Doherty, and (most recently) Brian Austin Green of “Beverly Hills, 90210,” James Van Der Beek of “Dawson’s Creek,” Mischa Barton of “The O.C.,” and Jana Kramer of “One Tree Hill.”
Other past competitors with teen drama connections include Denise Richards (Beverly Hills, 90210 and BH90210), David Arquette (Beverly Hills, 90210), Babyface (Beverly Hills, 90210), Vanessa Lachey (BH90210), Jack Osbourne (Dawson’s Creek), Janel Parrish (The O.C.), Gavin DeGraw (One Tree Hill), Maria Menounos (One Tree Hill), Rick Fox (One Tree Hill), Chelsea Kane (One Tree Hill), and John Schneider (90210).
And now with Donovan and Lewis in the mix, I’m compelled to watch yet again.
You win, “Dancing with the Stars.” You win.
