Brian Robbins has stayed quiet about the abuse that went on behind the scenes of “One Tree Hill” — and now he’s doing the same regarding the misconduct that went on behind the scenes of his Nickelodeon shows.
Robbins is currently the president and CEO of Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon as well as the CCO of Paramount+, which means he has a lot to lose if he is in any way implicated in these scandals. But to me, his silence has already spoken volumes.
In the wake of the “One Tree Hill” cast revealing in 2017 that many of them suffered sexual harassment — and worse — at the hands of creator Mark Schwahn, victim Hilarie Burton told People in 2019 that “we still have never received an apology or a phone call from anybody who was in any position of power.” She went on, “No producers, no executives. Not one single person has ever reached out to us.”
We have to assume Burton’s declaration includes Robbins, who was an executive producer on “One Tree Hill” for all nine seasons. And to my knowledge, nothing has changed in the years since Burton’s remarks.
Robbins, with fellow “One Tree Hill” EP Mike Tollin, also executive-produced, “All That” and “The Amanda Show” — two shows in the news right now because of the disturbing revelations exposed in “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.” Now again, Robbins has said nothing.
But what did he know and when did he know it? It strains credulity to believe he knew nothing at the time. It also defies explanation that Robbins has not acknowledged what went on during “One Tree Hill” in the nearly seven years since Schwahn’s behavior was revealed — all while Robbins’ career has continued to rise and his power in Hollywood has continued to grow.
At what point will Robbins be forced to finally address the increasingly large elephant in the room?
I reached out to Paramount and Nickelodeon for comment and have not heard back.
