I’ve always loved Oscars season.
Sure, once the Academy Awards finally arrive, it can sometimes feel anticlimactic, but as a pop culture fiend, this time of years brings together so many things I love: prestige movies, film debates, celebrity competition, red carpet gowns, and so on.
I watched eight of the 10 Best Picture nominees this year, which I think is a record for me. I saw Barbie, Oppenheimer, and Past Lives in theaters last summer. Over my holiday break, I watched Maestro (and a few others that ultimately weren’t nominated) at home, and in recent weeks I’ve streamed American Fiction (featuring Adam Brody in a small role), The Zone of Interest, Anatomy of a Fall, and Poor Things.
I opted to skip The Holdovers and Flowers of the Killer Moon (featuring Barry Corbin a small role) as they didn’t interest me, but I did also watch the snubbed All of Us Strangers. The only movie I wanted to get to but didn’t was Best International Feature Film nominee Society of the Snow — but I did edit an article about it as part of my day job. (Okay, I’m also upset I never got the chance to watch Elemental.)
It all culminated on Sunday, beginning five minutes late (or, rather, 55 minutes earlier than usual) and ending five minutes early. There were some notable teen drama connections to the ceremony…
The aforementioned Brody was seen at least twice in footage from American Fiction, which won Adapted Screenplay.
Apart from American Fiction and The Holdovers with Tate Donovan, which won for Supporting Actress, other films tied to TD stars — Killers of the Flower Moon with Corbin, Eva Longoria’s Flamin’ Hot, and Red, White and Blue with Brittany Snow — lost in their respective categories.
Longoria spoke about being in “Beverly Hills, 90210” on the red carpet, leading Tori Spelling to post the below on her Instagram Story.
Matthew Perry and Richard Roundtree, who appeared on “Beverly Hills, 90210,” and Ryan O’Neal, who recurred on “90210,” were featured in the In Memoriam.
And: “Billie Eilish Wore ‘Gossip Girl’-Esque Chanel For The 2024 Oscars”
Some miscellaneous, non-TD thoughts….
I was thrilled Emma Stone won Best Actress. Of the three performances I saw in this category, she was the one I thought most deserved it.
Ryan Gosling’s performance was so fun.
I’m a sucker for Kate McKinnon and for Sterling K. Brown.
America Ferrera and Issa Rae were my top picks for best dressed, while I think Jennifer Lawrence had the best makeup.
And ICYMI…
Now that’s an Oscars season wrap!

Brian Austin Green (David, Beverly Hills, 90210) did another interview about Moviac but it was packaged very differently…
“Brian Austin Green Ranks His Top 5 ‘90210’ Storylines!” (E! Online)
It’s a rather misleading headline, too, because Green doesn’t “rank his top 5” — he ranks five random storylines that are given to him. Also, perhaps needless to say, these were “Beverly Hills, 90210” storylines — not “90210” storylines.

The rumors and speculation about Bush and Burton versus their “One Tree Hill” co-star and “Drama Queens” co-host Bethany Joy Lenz (Haley, One Tree Hill) is not yet at a point where I feel comfortable covering it — it’s very much just gossip right now — but Bush and Burton choosing to go to an event together right now and both of them highlighting it and their friendship on social media (Burton on her Instagram Stories) is a choice.
That said, it was also a choice for Lenz to pay tribute to them both as part of her International Women’s Day post. (Instagram)
