It’s summer, so you know what that means…
The Kelly-Dylan “Beverly Hills, 90210” summer episodes are on my mind even more than usual.
Thirty-two years ago last week, on July 15, 1992, the show kicked off its third season with Kelly planning to go to Paris with Donna. A fateful turn of events in the subsequent episode had Brenda going in Kelly’s place and ended with a hint of what was possibly to come:
Kelly: Hey, I might even get together with you.
Dylan: Really? I might just hold you to that.
That was the start of what would become my all-time favorite couple.
Of course, at the time, I was all of 5 years old and had my birthday the very day season 3 began. I had no idea there even was a show called “Beverly Hills, 90210” then or what it would come to mean to me.
Now all these years later, when I can’t sleep, I recite to myself Kelly and Dylan’s dialogue from those summer episodes.
Scenes like this…
And this…
And this…
And this…
…they live rent-free in my mind.
Of course, many scenes from later that season and other seasons do too.
But this is where it all began. And every summer, this is where my heart lies.
ICYMI: I was on “9-OH! News” to talk about Shannen Doherty’s life and death — and I’m compiling continuing coverage here. More updates to come.
