Teen Drama Links for October 11, 2022
With the fall TV season more or less in full swing, I’d love to know what everyone’s watching.
My TV-viewing schedule is pretty straightforward right now…
Mondays: “Dancing with the Stars”
Tuesdays: “Bachelor in Paradise”
Wednesdays: “Survivor”
Thursday-Sunday: Catch up on “Bachelor in Paradise” or “Survivor” via DVR if I’ve missed it for some reason; possibly watch a Harry Potter marathon or something on streaming; potentially not watch anything at all.
As I shared back in June, none of the new broadcast shows for the fall season have caught my attention. Among all the new offerings on streaming, only Hulu’s “Reboot” is on my list to check out (and I imagine I’ll probably write about the “BH90210” similarities at some point).
My fall / winter movie calendar is a bit more full. I finally saw Don’t Worry Darling (directed by Olivia Wilde of “The O.C.”) last weekend, and I’m planning to hopefully see My Policeman (with my love Harry Styles again!), Armageddon Time (with Banks Repeta, son of Nina Repeta of “Dawson’s Creek”), The Fabelmans (with Michelle Williams and Seth Rogen of “Dawson’s Creek”), Causeways, The Son, I Wanna Dance with Somebody, Spoiler Alert, and Aftersun (with one of my other loves, Paul Mescal of “Normal People”).
What about you — what are you watching these days?
P.S. Today would’ve been Luke Perry’s 56th birthday. Sob. Here is my essay on his passing.
P.P.S. It was the second anniversary of TDW on Substack on Sunday!
P.P.S. The Substack app is FINALLY available for Android! Download it to make reading TDW easier than ever.

Eric Weinberg, who was a co-executive producer of several shows featuring teen drama stars, was charged with 18 counts of sexual assault. (Deadline)
Some “Beverly Hills, 90210” cast members posted on social media for the show’s 32nd anniversary last week — and I want to point out that the picture Tori Spelling (Donna, Beverly Hills, 90210) posted of their “first photoshoot” was most definitely not from the first photoshoot. That picture is from season 3. (Instagram)
Spelling did press for her new MTV series “Love at First Lie.”

This interview is also notable for Caulfield’s comments on viewing “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” in light of the allegations surrounding Joss Whedon. I really respect her take — it’s how I wish the “Drama Queens” ladies approached things.

Tom Kapinos (executive producer, Dawson’s Creek) is writing and executive-producing “Open Book,” a TV series based on Jessica Simpson’s memoir. (Deadline)

Ackles and wife Danneel Ackles (Rachel, One Tree Hill) did press for the premiere of “The Winchesters.”

In addition to Lim, Rogen is among the film’s producers.
I was very sad to get a Google Alert for this obituary about a 28-year-old woman named Sara Elizabeth Ringrose: “She loved vacationing in Wilmington, NC because it was where her favorite show, One Tree Hill, was filmed. She eventually wanted to end up there.” (Williamson Source)
“Gossip Girl” was mentioned in an “SNL” sketch last weekend. (NBC)

I think I missed this back in August somehow: “The Business of Being Evan Mock Is Booming” (GQ)
And, given that we’ve yet to even get a premiere date for season 2 of the “Gossip Girl” spinoff, this is extremely notable: “Mock is preparing to appear in his first movie; the shoot will precede production on the third season of Gossip Girl. (Yes, there will be a third season of the popular but critically challenged show, according to Mock. HBO Max has not confirmed a third season.)”

Also: Hocus Pocus 2 was one of the dance themes for last night’s “Dancing with the Stars.”
Speaking of last night’s “Dancing with the Stars,” Trevor Donovan (Teddy, 90210) received mixed feedback and a score of 28 for his samba — tying for the second-lowest of the night. He and partner Emma Slater were in the bottom two, based on their score and viewers’ votes, and were unanimously saved by the judges over Sam Champion and Cheryl Burke.
In his opening package, Donovan mentioned an episode of “90210.”
AnnaLynne McCord (Naomi, 90210) was the emcee for the Carousel of Hope Ball last weekend and “spoke with PEOPLE about being a ‘big mental health advocate’ since revealing her diagnosis last year.” (People)
